Craig Stammen turned 36 in March and is about to begin his 11th big-league season. Such as it is.
The 3½ months he (and everyone else) wasn’t playing baseball, during which he threw less and worked out more than he would have if a season had been going on, has him feeling fantastic.
“I think I could pitch five innings if I had to right now,” he said as camp was about to begin. “… Maybe it will add another year onto my career at the back end.”
Stammen was laughing. But who knows how long the right-hander’s elastic arm, laser-sighted control, calm and smarts will carry him?
