Padres notes: Chasing lefty history; Stock strikes back; Strahm to return

SAN FRANCISCO —

Joey Lucchesi’s start on Wednesday night was the 49th made by a Padres left-hander this season, most in the majors and keeping the Padres on track to challenge history.

Only one National League team has ever had a higher percentage of its starts over a full season made by left-handed pitchers than the 72.1 percent Padres lefties have made so far this season.

And it was actually a left-handed pitcher.

In 1880, 23-year-old Lee Richmond started 66 of the Worcester Ruby Legs’ 83 games (77.1 percent) that season.
