PEORIA, Ariz. —
Joey Lucchesi wouldn’t talk about it, wouldn’t say what it was.
But he has thrown a bullpen session and a live batting practice. So now we know.
The churve is being joined by a change-up.
New pitching coach Larry Rothschild worked with Lucchesi on the offering this offseason. Where the churve breaks to the right, the left-hander’s change-up fades to the left.
“Something to get away from right-handed hitters,” Rothschild said. “I think it’s a pitch that will come out of his hand the same. With the movement on the other change-up (the churve), that’s a lot of movement coming into home plate.
