CINCINNATI —
The two-headed catcher position provided a significant home run for the second straight game, furthering the Padres’ faith that Austin Hedges and Francisco Mejia can be a successful team on a successful team.
“We said from the beginning we thought we’d have the best catching tandem in baseball,” manager Andy Green said. “It’s taken a while to get to a point where we feel like it’s hitting its stride. But these guys are both doing some really nice things.”
He said that Monday afternoon, about 24 hours after Hedges went 4-for-4 and hit the decisive home run in a 3-2 victory over the Phillies and before Mejia hit a homer that gave the Padres a lead in the midst of a 3-2 victory over the Reds.
