Jose Castillo appeared on the verge of escaping trouble in his first appearance of 2019. Suddenly, his night was over. And it appeared possible his season was, as well, due to a tendon injury to the middle finger of his throwing hand.
Castillo, activated from the injured list on Thursday after missing the entire season with a flexor strain, entered Thursday’s 9-3 victory over the Rockies in the seventh inning.
His fourth pitch hit Charlie Blackmon. Four pitches later, Castillo had walked Trevor Story. The left-hander then struck out Nolan Arenado and Daniel Murphy before Green and assistant athletic trainer Michael Salazar walked to the mound.
