SAN FRANCISCO —
Sometimes joking, sometimes testing him, often doing both, Padres officials would casually ask Javy Guerra if he thought he could pitch.
Every time, he would quickly answer in the affirmative.
“I could throw 100,” he’d say.
So when it came to officially altering course with the former highly rated shortstop prospect’s professional career by moving him to pitcher, those involved were relatively certain Guerra would eagerly take to the effort.
“To be honest, nothing,” Guerra said of his reaction when the Padres told him in March that they would like to see him throw off a mound.
