Padres notes: Bullpen scare; Tatis update; Jones keeps up with Paddack

Before Kirby Yates pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn his major league-leading 18th save and before Craig Stammen pitched a perfect eighth to earn his major league-leading 11th hold in Monday’s 2-1 victory over the Diamondbacks, the Padres bullpen teetered on the edge of another disastrous outing in the seventh inning.

Trey Wingenter, in his first appearance since coming off the injured list Sunday, entered in relief of starter Chris Paddack to begin the seventh and struck out Blake Swihart before walking Nick Ahmed and Carson Kelly on eight pitches.

Adam Warren relieved Wingenter and threw four straight balls to pinch-hitter Alex Avila to load the bases.
