This past weekend was a vivid illustration of what Craig Stammen could be for the Padres next season — should both sides decide to continue what has been a successful relationship.
It was actually what Stammen was much of the past two seasons and was supposed to be in 2019.
Only with the emergence of rookie Andres Munoz, though, has Stammen received more mid-inning assignments rather than being pressed into the set-up role.
Sunday’s 3-1 victory over the Red Sox, in particular, demonstrated what a Padres bullpen could look like later in close games in 2020.
