The man who has served as the primary Padres play-by-play man since 2010 will call his final game for the team in 2016. Dick Enberg announced Wednesday night that he will call games through next season before calling it quits – for now. After all, his broadcast career spans over 60 years so it’s hard to think that he will be completely done when the final game is played for the Padres next year.

According to Beth Maiman, Enberg had this to say in a statement summing these up:
“In culminating 60 years of sports broadcasting, it has been a tremendous thrill to be the TV voice of my hometown San Diego Padres, and I’m tremendously excited that I will have a continuing TV role though the 2016 season, an All-Star Game year for San Diego,”
He was also honored by the Baseball Hall of Fame with the Ford C.
