Padres third baseman Manny Machado is appealing a fine and one-game suspension handed down by Major League Baseball stemming from his ejection Saturday at Coors Field.
The release announcing the suspension said Machado was being punished for “aggressively arguing and making contact with Umpire Bill Welke” after Welke ejected him for arguing a called third strike.
Machado came close to Welke immediately after the ejection. At one point, Welke is seen pointing to his arm and appears to tell Machado that he just touched him.
Before returning to the Padres dugout, where he continued to yell at Welke, Machado flung his bat at the backstop.
