The Padres lost two pitchers Thursday in the Rule 5 draft, but only one in the big league phase. They added one through the Triple-A portion of the draft.
Right-hander Trevor Megill, a 26-year-old who climbed from Double-A Amarillo to Triple-A El Paso, went to the Cubs, one of 11 players selected in the major league phase of the draft.
Only players not on the 40-man roster who’d been in farm systems for four or five years, depending on their age when they signed, were eligible for selection.
Megill was a seventh-round pick out of Loyola Marymount in 2015, General Manager A.
