2019’s Rule 5 draft was a source of worry for many Padre fans this year, as the club faced a bit of a roster crunch due to its deep farm system.
Thursday’s draft came and went, though, and the San Diego front office was able to get away with only losing righty Trevor Megill, an admittedly promising 26-year-old righty reliever who was taken by the Cubs with the ninth pick of the draft’s major league round .
Megill will need to remain on Chicago’s roster for the entirety of 2020, or be offered back to the Padres.
