The Padres jettisoned one middle infielder last week, trading second baseman Luis Urias to the Brewers in a deal that upgraded the rotation and added a left-handed bat to the outfield mix.
Several others from the 2016-17 international signing period will find themselves on the 40-man roster bubble after the 2020 campaign, from Gabriel Arias to Justin Lopez to Tucupita Marcano to Jordy Barley.
Of that group, Barley – who turns 20 on Tuesday – has the furthest to come after spending the second half of 2019 at short-season Tri-City.
