Joey Lucchesi was in control and Luis Patiño was vastly improved over his first intrasquad appearance.
That was as efficient as two pitchers have looked in an intrasquad game so far in the Padres preseason summer camp.
First, the usual disclaimer: Don’t read too much into this recounting. These aren’t even spring training games, they are intrasquad games. The reporting is being done from Gallagher Square (Park at the Park). I can’t see the outfielders or even the left-field line beyond third base, and I’m looking through binoculars most of the time.
Here is what stood out Thursday:
- Lucchesi allowed one hit and took 51 pitches (by my count) to get through four innings.
