Garry Templeton was not a happy man in St. Louis. He was in San Diego, too, at least until his 10-year stay came to end on this date — May 31 — in 1991.
By this time, Templeton wasn’t exactly angered to be traded to the New York Mets for Tim Teufel or that he’d lost his starting job to shortstop Tony Fernandez.
The 35-year-old Templeton just hadn’t been a fan of Padres manager Greg Riddoch.
He made sure everyone knew on his way out the door.
“Hardly nobody in the clubhouse respects the man and nobody trusts him,” Templeton told the San Diego Union.
