The second-longest-tenured manager in Padres history, Bud Black never managed a playoff game for San Diego. Game 163 in his rookie season, 2007, was as close as the San Diego State product got.
Black managed only one other winning season when new General Manager A.J. Preller decided on this date — June 15 — in 2015 to see if someone else could get his “Rock Star” team trending in the right direction.
“It’s something that I’ve been thinking about probably the last two weeks or so,” Preller told the Union-Tribune after firing Black on a Monday morning.
