Padres history (June 1): The day Andrew Cashner was truly all or nothing

Andrew Cashner projected as an ace — either in the rotation or the bullpen — when Padres General Manager Josh Byrnes acquired him for Anthony Rizzo to avoid a “quarterback controversy” at first base with Yonder Alonso. The tall right-handed Texan certainly looked the part, too, early down the stretch in 2013 and between all his starts and stops in 2014.

Mostly, he teased at his potential throughout his stay in San Diego.

Take his start on this date — June 1 — in 2015.

Cashner struck out a career-high 12 batters without issuing a single walk.
