Padres history (Aug. 4): Barry Bonds hits No. 755 at Petco Park

Barry Bonds was sitting on 754 career home runs when baseball fans filed into Petco Park for a three-game series in August 2007. One Padres reliever was adamant they’d be denied the right to witness history.

Will Bonds break Hank Aaron’s record?

“No,” Padres reliever Doug Brocail told the Union-Tribune. “Exclamation point.”

Brocail was right ... but Bonds did tie Aaron on this date — Aug. 4.

Bonds led off the second inning by driving Clay Hensley’s 2-1 fastball an estimated 382 feet to left field, where it caromed off an advertising board and into the front row for his historic 755th homer.
