New Padres manager Jayce Tingler’s coaching staff, which will be larger than the team has had, is almost set.
All that remains to be decided is who will be the team’s 11th hitting coach in the past 15 seasons.
Johnny Washington, who was the hitting coach in 2019 and had a year remaining on his contract, is expected to be re-assigned in the organization.
While the team has looked outside, including offering the position to former Pirates manager Clint Hurdle, it remains possible assistant hitting coach Damion Easley will be promoted. Easley, who also works with infielders, will be part of the staff.
