The Padres on Monday assured a large portion of their employees that they have jobs through October, regardless of whether baseball is played this season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
After MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred announced he had suspended Uniform Employee Contracts (UEC), allowing teams to furlough employees or cut their salaries beginning May 1, the Padres conducted a conference call with their baseball operations department in which they guaranteed those approximately 200 people they will have jobs through the duration of this contract year, which ends Oct. 31.
Some employees on the higher end of the pay scale will take pay cuts.
