Padres get second sweep of season, stay unbeaten

Before the ink was dry on his newly signed contract, Jackson Merrill was rewarding the San Diego Padres with a two-run home run to right-center field to give his team a 4-0 lead over the Cleveland Guardians.

Merrill’s home run capped the scoring on the inning, which started with a Fernando Tatis Jr. single with two outs. He beat the throw from Cleveland third baseman Jose Ramirez. Luis Arraez followed with a base hit that left runners at the corners.
