Top prospects from both the San Diego Padres and Texas Rangers organizations met on Friday night at Petco Park for an Arizona Instructional League matchup. Titled the Padres Futures Game, San Diego prospects defeated some of the Rangers’ top future players by a final of 5-1.
Highlighting the exhibition was baseball’s 88th ranked prospect Josh Naylor, who homered and doubled. Also making an appearance was each of the Padres’ top three pitching prospects, Anderson Espinoza, Cal Quantrill, and Adrian Morejon. Espinoza especially opened eyes, introducing himself to Padre fans who may not have been aware of the top overall proespect.
