The ball flies off the bat. Ooooh.
It soars. Ahhhh.
It lands amid a sea of outstretched arms. Roar.
Beer spills. Strangers high-five and hug. Teammates hop to their feet, readying for personalized and choreographed handshakes.
In its moment, the home run is among a small group of athletic feats that exhibit such majesty and elicit such response.
But take almost 200 of those homers together over the course of a season and, well, they produce a yawn.
At least in the case of a certain team that hasn’t done much with their home runs.
