Padres’ Fernando Tatis Jr. breaking through rookie wall

NEW YORK —

It should first and probably foremost be noted that the rookie wall, in this case, includes a pair of home runs hit a combined 886 feet.

But there seems to be little doubt Padres shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. is working through some dog days this summer.

“It happens to everyone,” veteran second baseman Ian Kinsler said.

It happens worse to virtually everyone else.

Before playing a clean shortstop and driving in three runs with two singles in Sunday’s 5-1 victory over the Cubs, Tatis had committed four errors and gone 3-for-22 in five games last week.
