The Padres (1-3) overcame an early 4-0 deficit thanks to a three-RBI effort by infielder Gosuke Katoh, but ultimately fell to the Brewers (3-1) by a score of 8-5 after a three-run flurry in the top of the game’s final inning.
Overall, it was poor day for the Padres’ usual starters that did end up playing as the likes of Fernando Tatis Jr., Trent Grisham, and Jake Cornenworth all combined to go 1-for-6 from the plate with two strikeouts.
The Brewers were first to strike as a wild pitch by Mark Melancon allowed second baseman Mark Mathias to get home early in the second.
