The Padres took a 4-3 lead into the ninth after Manny Machado scored on a throwing error to first base, but the Reds managed to rally in the final period behind a game-tying solo home run from shortstop Kyle Farmer and a go-ahead single by Tyler Stephenson which helped Cincinnati avoid the sweep with a 5-4 decisions at home.
Ryan Weathers began the night for the Friars with four innings of solid pitching where he struck out five and allowed two runs with four walks. He was one of seven pitchers to take the mound for San Diego by the end of the night.
