The Padres designated embattled right-hander Jacob Nix for assignment Monday, one of several moves as the club set its 40-man roster for the official start of the offseason.
Right-hander Eric Yardley was also designated for assignment, infielder Seth Mejias-Brean was outrighted to Triple-A El Paso and right-hander Carl Edwards Jr. elected free agency after clearing waivers.
Additionally, shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr., outfielder Franchy Cordero, left-hander Jose Castillo, left-hander Adrian Morejon, right-hander Miguel Diaz and second baseman Ian Kinsler were reinstated from the 60-day injured list.
Nix, too, was on the 60-day injured list after sustaining a UCL tear in spring training and rehabbing all season.
