Abraham Almonte plays baseball.
“I love baseball,” Almonte said Monday morning. “The baseball never stops. There is always something to learn when I play. If my body is in good condition, I like to play. I want to receive every single thing baseball can teach me, to make me better and to help other people around me be better.”
That’s why he’s here, in spring training with the Padres. And that he is here is among the subtle but significant signs that the Padres see the 2020 season differently than recent seasons.
“We do research,” Almonte said in reference to him and his agent weighing offseason options.
