The Padres (50-37) scored four runs in the third and fourth innings combined to claw their way back from an early 5-1 deficit after two in Monday night’s game one against the Nationals (41-42). Unfortunately that spurt of momentum ended just about as quick as it arrived as the Nats scored a pair of runs late, including a solo home run by first baseman Josh Bell, which secured a final score of 7-5 at Petco Park.
The Padres got on the board for the first time when Trent Grisham took a pitch to the body with the bases loaded, sending Jake Cronenworth home.
