Padres call up Noonan, option Rondon

PITTSBURGH — The Padres' second-half auditions rolled on Wednesday, bringing the realization of a childhood dream. The club selected the contract of infielder and Francis Parker graduate Nick Noonan. To create room, shortstop Jose Rondon was optioned to Triple-A El Paso.

"This is unbelievable," Noonan said Wednesday afternoon inside the visiting clubhouse at PNC Park. "My friends and family all go to Padres games. And now to be out there playing in front of them, it’s going to be a unique experience, but one I’m going to cherish."

Noonan, 27, signed a minor league deal with his hometown team in February.
