Padres bulk up staff around new manager

New Padres manager Jayce Tingler will have an abundance of help in his first season at the helm of a major league club.

The Padres have finalized their bulked-up staff and announced Thursday night they have promoted Damion Easley to hitting coach. That was the last remaining unknown staff member.

Easley, who was the assistant hitting coach last season under Johnny Washington, will be the team’s 11th hitting coach since 2004. Washington has been reassigned to work with minor leaguers.

Also, Skip Schumaker will serve in the newly created role of associate manager, doing many of the duties generally associated with a bench coach role.
