On the 75th anniversary of a signature battle in U.S. military history — the D-Day invasion of Normandy in World War II — the San Diego Padres and the Navy will resume their own competition Thursday.
They’re squaring off for a softball game, Padres alumni vs. Navy all-stars.
First held in 2017, when the Navy won 13-8, the event is open only to active-duty sailors and their families. First pitch is scheduled for 11:40 a.m. on field number four at Naval Base San Diego.
“The annual alumni softball game has been a great opportunity to express our gratitude to these men and women for their service to our country,” said Tom Seidler, Padres senior vice president of community and military affairs, in a statement.
