The Padres on Wednesday activated utility infielder Alexi Amarista from the 15-day disabled list and, to open a roster spot, optioned right-hander Tayron Guerrero to Triple-A El Paso.
Amarista had been sidelined since April 20 due to a right hamstring strain. A .333 (7-for-21) hitter at the time of his injury, he was available off the bench for Wednesday night's game against San Francisco.
Amarista, who had played in a few games in extended spring training, appearing one rehab game with Double-A San Antonio, going 2-for-5 Tuesday while manning second and third base.
For the Padres, he figures to see time at either position in the immediate future.
