The Padres on Tuesday acquired first baseman Yonder Alonso from the Atlanta Braves.
Alonso, who played for the Padres from 2012-15 and is Manny Machado’s brother-in-law, was on the restricted list after not reporting to the Braves’ alternate site. He will work out at the Padres’ alternate site, at USD.
The Padres initially acquired Alonso, along with Yasmani Grandal, Brad Boxberger and Edinson Volquez, in 2011 from the Reds for Mat Latos. The Padres traded Alonso to the A’s in December 2015, as part of the deal that landed pitcher Drew Pomeranz. The Padres on Tuesday agreed to send cash to the Braves.
