Let’s not beat around the bush: Freddy Galvis was on fire tonight. The last time a Padres shortstop went 5-for-5 was Craig Shipley in 1996, and the last Friar to pick up five hits in a game was Jon Jay over two years ago (and Jay had a sixth at bat to work with). Galvis was responsible for nearly half of the team’s RBI tonight and over a third of their hits. Some other Padres were good, too, I guess. Jose Pirela hit his first homer of the season, and Clayton Richard continued his inning eating ways by holding Atlanta to three runs (two earned) over six frames.
