The San Diego Padres came to life at the plate in the bottom of the fifth inning against the Colorado Rockies. The Padres batted around in the six-run inning that knocked Rockies starting pitcher German Marquez out of the game. San Diego rode the momentum of the big inning to an 8-0 win at Petco Park, Friday night.
Marquez and Padres starter Nick Pivetta were engaged in a pitchers duel through the first four-and-a-half innings, but that all changed when Xander Bogaerts led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a single to left field. He stole second to get into scoring position and came home on a Jose Iglesias single to put San Diego up, 1-0.
