The San Diego Padres needed someone to step up after losing the first game to the Detroit Tigers to open their three-game series, Monday. The loss was the third for the Padres in their last four games.
San Diego got a big pitching performance from starter Nick Pivetta. He limited scoring opportunities for Detroit by limiting hits and base traffic. Pivetta completed seven innings and allowed just two hits, while keeping the Tigers off the scoreboard. He also recorded six strikeouts and allowed two walks.
