LOS ANGELES -- At some point next week, Padres general manager A.J. Preller and his baseball operations staff will discuss the most imminent order of business that awaits them this off-season: deciding on a manager for 2016.
San Diego interim manager Pat Murphy, who filled out his final lineup card of the regular season on Sunday against the Dodgers, may or may not be a candidate for that job. He understands this much.
Murphy, who went into Sunday's game with a 42-53 record since he took over for Bud Black on June 16, said that his lone regret was that he wasn't always able to be himself more in this job.
