After two straight wins, maybe this finally the start of the much-anticipated, much-hoped for winning streak that would lift the Padres into contention in the NL West?
Then again, maybe not.
After taking the first two games of the weekend series from the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Padres let the momentum slip away Sunday, stung by the long ball.
The Diamondbacks slugged three homers - a three-run shot by Wellington Castillo, a solo by David Peralta and a two-run blast by Jake Lamb, in beating the Padres 6-4.The Padres, who were already playing the game shorthanded with infielder Cory Spangenberg nursing a bruised left knee, lost third baseman Will Middlebrooks in the seventh inning when he appeared to roll
his right ankle.
