Luis Perdomo was rewarded for his solid spring on Thursday when San Diego Padres manager Andy Green named the 23-year-old right-hander as his fifth starter. But even if Perdomo continues to pitch well, the Padres could still be tempted to send him to the minor leagues at some point this season.
Perdomo, who will start the Padres’ home opener against the Giants on April 7, posted a 2.41 ERA in five Cactus League appearances. Perdomo made the Padres last year as a Rule 5 draftee and was 9-10 with a 5.71 ERA in 35 games, including starts.
