The youngest player in the California League is off to a blistering start.
Nineteen-year-old Tirso Ornelas hit his first homer at high Single-A Lake Elsinore and rove in two runs on two hits in an 8-2 win over visiting Inland Empire on Saturday night at The Diamond.
Ornelas, a right fielder, has at least two hits in six of his 10 games to start the year. He is hitting .333/.438/.564 with eight walks against 10 strikeouts and seven RBIs.
Ranked No. 16 in the system by MLB.com, Ornelas hit .252/.341/.392 in 86 games last year at low Single-A Fort Wayne.
