Fernando Tatis Jr.’s hamstring is feeling good these days.
To prove, it the Padres’ 20-year-old shortstop walked on four pitches in his first plate appearance at Double-A Amarillo, promptly swiped second base and scored on Ivan Castillo’s ground-rule double. In an 8-5 loss to visiting Frisco, Tatis also beat out an infield single, walked a second time in five plate appearances and played nine innings at shortstop, a promising start to his rehab assignment in the Texas League.
Padres manager Andy Green has said Tatis’ return will hinge on his timing at the plate and how his injury responds to game action.
