As it pertains to the Padres’ catcher of the future, Luis Campusano may be expanding the conversation.
The 20-year-old backstop drove in four runs on three more hits in high Single-A Lake Elsinore’s 11-1 win over visiting Inland Empire on Sunday, lifting his batting average to a California League-best .330.
One hit left the park, his seventh of the year, and two rattled around for doubles, upping his slugging percentage to .512, good for fourth in the hitter-friendly circuit. Campusano’s .406 on-base percentage is also third-best in the Cal League.
A second-round pick in 2017, Campusano was a mid-season all-star for the second year in a row.
