A labrum tear and subsequent surgery on Jorge Oña’s throwing (right) shoulder has wiped away his final year before the Padres must protect him from the Rule-5 draft.
The 22-yea-rold Oña had not played since May 3. He was hitting .348/.417/.539 with five homers and 11 RBIs in 25 games at Double-A Amarillo when the Cuban outfielder landed on the injured list.
