Perhaps Cal Quantrill is turning a corner.
The Padres’ 24-year-old pitching prospect turned in a second consecutive solid outing Tuesday, limiting Tacoma to a pair of runs in 5 2/3 innings in Triple-A El Paso’s 13-5 win at home, the Chihuahuas’ fifth straight victory.
Quantrill struck out a season-high seven batters and allowed two runs on five this and two walks. Since allowing eight runs – six earned – in three innings in his 2019 debut, Quantrill has allowed four runs over 11 1/3 innings to lower his ERA to 6.28.
Tuesday’s win was Quantrill’s second of the year.
