Luis Patiño started fast in Tuesday’s Double-A debut in Amarillo. He did not finish strong.
Patiño allowed four runs in his first start in the Texas League in a game the Sod Poodles went on to win, 5-4 over visiting Midland, after his exit.
The 19-year-old right-hander finished with seven strikeouts but walked four and surrendered six hits in 4 2/3 innings.
Patiño retired the side in order in the first inning, stranded a leadoff walk in the second and a pair of base-hits in the third. One run scored in the fourth and three scored in the fifth when Patiño exited 71 of his 102 pitches landing for strikes.
