Minors: Padres’ Rodrigo Orozco enjoys system debut

Rodrigo Orozo enjoyed his official introduction to the Padres’ farm system. So did Double-A Amarillo.

The 24-year-outfielder homered, singled and drove in three runs in his organizational debut on Thursday, leading the Sod Poodles to an 8-4 win that snapped a four-game losing streak.

Orozco, a native of Panama, was acquired from the Blue Jays earlier this month for outfielder Socrates Brito.

Last year in the high Single-A Florida State League, the switch-hitting Orozco paired a .304/.375/.389 batting line with one homer, 39 RBIs and 18 steals. He’d never played above A-ball before the Padres sent him to Amarillo this week.
