Minors: Padres promote hard-throwing Andres Munoz to El Paso

Andres Munoz’s right arm has taken him from Los Mochis, Mexico, to Fort Wayne, Ind., to three stops in Texas — San Antonio, Amarillo and now El Paso.

The Padres on Tuesday promoted the 20-year-old reliever to the Triple-A Pacific Coast League. In 15 games at Double-A Amarillo, Munoz — who has been clocked as high as 104 mph this year — struck out 32 batters and held opposing hitters to a .130 batting average over 15 2/3 innings (1.72 ERA).

His mid-80s slider a focus in recent weeks, Munoz had posted a 25-to-4 strikeout to walk ratio over 11 2/3 straight scoreless innings to earn the promotion.
