That’s what happens when top prospects — like Fernando Tatis Jr. and Chris Paddack — graduate to the majors.
It is, of course, still quite deep.
Ranked No. 1 by Keith Law the last two years, the Padres checked in at No. 5 in Law’s first top-30 system ranking at The Athletic (subscription required). Even with Tatis and Paddack graduating and prospect Xavier Edwards packaged in the Tommy Pham trade, the Padres boast six players in Law’s top-100, including the best pitching prospect in the game in MacKenzie Gore.
