AMARILLO, Texas —
It took more than one start for Nick Margevicius to open eyes this spring. It will almost certainly take more than one to return to the big league club.
The Padres are making sure of that.
The 22-year-old left-hander threw two innings Saturday in his official Texas League debut, part of a planned regimen to continue to keep his innings in check as he negotiates just his second full year as a professional. Margevicius allowed a run on a solo homer, yes, but more importantly recorded first-pitch strikes against six of eight hitters after his command had wavered in his most recent big league starts.
